There’s one thing milk stands for — health. It’s seen as natural, nutrient-rich and comes from happy cows in green meadows. Today however, milk is big business and a highly sought-after commodity that is subject to aggressive trading. In Europe alone, 2 billion tonnes of milk and milk powder are produced annually and sold worldwide. How did cows become suppliers for the high-tech milk industry? What alternatives are there? Who are the people behind it? How does milk consumption affect our health? This film goes behind-the-scenes and allows the players to have their say. A fascinating journey throughout the world of milk that takes us across Europe, America, Asia and Africa to meet farmers, dairy owners, politicians, lobbyists, NGOs, scientists in order to investigate the far-reaching consequences that the big business of milk has – on the animals, environment and on us humans.
